PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Validating continual growth in incidences of diabetes, the International Diabetes Foundation (IDF) has reported that the number of people diagnosed with diabetes has increased from 30 million to 230 million in the last 20 years. The IDF further expects this figure to near 350 million by 2025, heightening concerns, particularly as diabetes is the leading cause of complications such as blindness, amputations, and kidney diseases and increases chances of strokes or heart disease by almost two to four times.
