Colombia has big plans for biofuels production, including cultivating 3 million additional hectares of land for biofuels over the next 10 years and raising biofuels blends in gasoline to 20%, Colombia's Mines and Energy Minister Hernan Martinez Torres said last week.
The Western hemisphere's third largest biofuels producer after Brazil and the US, Colombia hopes to expand production in order to meet growing domestic fuel demand, create jobs in agriculture, and earn export dollars.
"This is one of our pet projects," the minister told investors at a conference organized by the Colombian American Association in New York.
