Sep. 13--Maitland overrode a Tallahassee mandate to reduce its property-tax rate this week, instead voting unanimously to keep the same rate while property values continued to rise.
Neighboring Winter Park took the legislative call for cuts to heart. Commissioners in that city voted unanimously to slash the rate.
They approved a fiscal 2008 budget of $46.1 million, down from the current $46.3 million.
Both cities have scheduled final tax-rate and budget votes Sept. 24.
