The buying power of emerging majorities continues to grow, according to a study from the Selig Center for Economic Growth. Three racial groups, Blacks, Asians, and Native Americans, account for $1.4 trillion (13.6%) of the nation's buying power in 2007, up from $452 billion (10.6%) in 1990. Hispanics account for $862 billion (8.6%).
Buying power is growing most rapidly for Hispanic and Asian Americans. Hispanic buying power, which more than quadrupled from 1990-2007 to a projected $861.8 billion, is predicted to jump another 46% to $1.26 trillion by 2012.
