SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 18, 1995--Landfill disposal of waste tires has significantly declined in California in the last four years, and waste tire recycling is up, the California Integrated Waste Management Board announced today.
But even though California is now looking at other ways to manage tires than landfilling them, the war on waste tires is far from over, said Board Member Sam Egigian. "We're keeping a lot of tires out of the landfill today, but we still have other historic problems to contend with -- from illegal dumping to the threat of disease and the risk of fires associated with tire piles."
