POTENT (say it POH-tint) Strong.
People have been worried for years about electric wires. They are not worried about getting shocked. They worry about getting hurt by something that is around electric wires.
It is called an electromagnetic field.
You can't live in modern America without coming in contact with electromagnetic fields around wires and appliances. (The fields are called EMFs for short.)
You are exposed to EMFs every time you watch television, use a microwave, work on a computer, dry your hair, turn on your electric blanket.
Overhead wires give off electromagnetic fields. The more power they carry, the more potent the field.
