Cosatu's biggest union, the National Union of Mineworkers, said it would use its weight to try influence the ANC's leadership race - and would come up with names if asked to do so.
The statement comes as Cosatu affiliates prepare for the trade unions' central committee meeting to be held in Johannesburg next week.
Cosatu this week said it would provide a list of candidates for whom it would attempt to lobby support in the run-up to the ANC national elective conference in December.
