Sep. 15--Villanova assistant coach Ed Pinckney is returning to the NBA ranks as an assistant coach for the Minnesota Timberwolves, two sources confirmed yesterday.
Pinckney, 44, was entering his fifth season as an assistant to Jay Wright at Villanova, a school he led to the 1985 NCAA championship. He had developed into a top recruiter and a tutor to the Wildcats' big men.
Reportedly, the Timberwolves thought they had a deal with Pinckney last week, but he turned it down. Team president Kevin McHale came up with another offer this week and Pinckney accepted, although final details were being worked out yesterday.
