Sep. 16--LANSING, Iowa -- Here's what those on Lansing's Main Street had to say when asked about the Blackhawk Bridge's economic impact and what would happen if it closed:
Bill and Sue Bartels, Bartels' Hardware and Service
Without the Blackhawk, "there would be a huge impact on our town's economy," Bill Bartels said.
Sue added: "Our town depends on Wisconsin customers from across the river. They come here for cheaper gasoline because Iowa's gas tax is less. Hunters come here for lodging to have access to the river. Small Wisconsin communities have no grocery stores, so they come here for them and do their laundry ...
