Sep. 16--While the offense was stuttering along and the special teams were busily losing the opener to Green Bay last Sunday, the unit that came into the season with the most question marks was quietly sailing through a relatively uneventful shakedown cruise.
The defense, with its young tackles and its refurbished linebacking corps, escaped from Lambeau Field without turning into a story.
Brett Favre, creaking into his 17th season, and the feeble Green Bay running game certainly helped the Eagles' defense get through the opener, and then some. After just one week, the Eagles lead the league in fewest yards per play allowed (3.4) ...
