Sep. 17--BALTIMORE -- Chad Pennington said he was ready to go if Eric Mangini made the call.
The call never came.
With Pennington still not 100 percent from an ankle injury he suffered last week against the Patriots, Mangini went with second-year quarterback Kellen Clemens yesterday against the Ravens. Clemens nearly rallied the Jets from a 17-3 deficit, but the fourth-quarter comeback fell short in a 20-13 loss.
Pennington spent most of the game wearing a helmet, clutching a baseball cap and holding a football while Clemens made his first NFL start. Afterward, Pennington said he could have played if Mangini had ...
