Sep. 17--Orlando Hernandez still can do his usual offday work, Willie Randolph said, meaning that he still can run and play long toss and generally keep himself in shape. What he can't do, however, is pitch. Hernandez will miss his scheduled start tonight in Washington and there is no telling when he will be able to start again because his right foot still is sore. He is nowhere in the rotation for this week.
Brian Lawrence, just called up from Triple-A New Orleans, starts tonight. He said he had been in line to pitch Saturday had the Zephyrs not been ousted from the Pacific Coast League playoffs, so he said he will be well-rested. Mike Pelfrey ...
