Sep. 17--WASHINGTON -- Some Republicans think they have found a replacement for their Cold War-era tactics in President Bush's new fictions about the Iraq war.
In their most shameful moments of the Cold War six decades ago, Republicans used the soft-on- Communism charge to defame centrist Democrats and take control of Congress and the presidency.
Echoes from that gutter came last week in reactions by GOP presidential candidates to the circus staged by Bush and Gen. David H. Petraeus.
