Sep. 17--Canada's fast-growing oil industry is fueling investment throughout the Northland.
Any doubts? Just look at the $8 billion that Canada's Enbridge Inc. and its American sidekick, Enbridge Energy Partners, plan to pump into the Lakehead Pipeline system during the next few years.
Enbridge is sinking $1.2 billion of that sum into a new 42-inch-wide pipeline that will stretch 454 miles from Superior to Flanagan, Ill., a hub southwest of Chicago. By the end of this year, Enbridge expects to complete Phase I of that project -- a segment that will traverse Wisconsin from its northwest to southeast corner.
