NEW YORK -- This Sunday will mark the 20th anniversary of the fall of Saigon, which effectively ended the Vietnam War and a brutally divisive period of American history.
In Ho Chi Mill City, the former Saigon, celebrations will be few and low-key. Plans instead are for major events scheduled for the country's National Day on Nov. 2, the 50th anniversary of the founding of the government by Ho Chi Minh during the rebellion against French rule.
Since the American trade embargo of Vietnam was lifted only last year, downplaying any festivities related to the capture of Saigon is a politically wise move on the part of the Hanol Government, which hopes to normalize ...
