SPECULATIVE interest in commodities spurred corn prices higher last week, with soybeans riding the coattails to ensure that enough acres are planted this spring.

This market is anything but normal. February already brought a major weather scare (to be discussed in more detail in the March 5 column). Chart signals point to the bulls, but prices already are higher.

Arlan Suderman, market analyst for Farm Futures, explained that it is much easier to sustain a bull market in March, April and May, but there are different dynamics at work this year.
