Sep. 18--Two former Randall County, Texas, employees were awarded more than $10,000 each for wages and benefits they lost after being fired from the county. The two accused officials of firing them in violation of the Texas Whistleblower Act.
The jury found county officials did fire former Road and Bridge employees, Joe Reynero and Kevin Bates, in December 2004 because they reported what they believed to be illegal dumping at the county's caliche pit, and that some county employees were driving dump trucks without commercial licenses.
The jury awarded Bates' estate $18,449 in damages and Reynero $11,726 in the civil case.
