There are many reasons for buying an investment.
The least satisfying would have to be "It's the best of the bad funds offered in my retirement plan."
If that is the best someone can say about a mutual fund, it may be enough to make the purchase, particularly if the employer matches worker contributions - but it won't be enough to convince the saver that they haven't been stuck with a Stupid Investment of the Week.
