Sep. 19--WASHINGTON -- Orlando Hernandez waited until the eve of last year's Division Series opener to cast a dark cloud over the Mets' championship dreams. Now, El Duque is doing it again, only this time he's giving them plenty of advance warning.
Hernandez, arguably the best starter in the rotation, revealed yesterday that he must wear a protective boot on his bunion-affected right foot for the next seven to 10 days, which puts the remainder of his season in jeopardy, as well as the playoffs.
