ABSTRACT We have used molecular genetic methods to examine the question of the geographic origins of the newly returned Argopecten irradians populations in Barnegat Bay (BB), New Jersey. Using PCR to amplify specific polymorphic microsatellite regions for bay scallop, we have genetically compared the 2004 and 2005 BB populations to those from Long Island (LI), New York, and North Carolina (NC). Our studies indicate that the 2004 and 2005 BB populations are genetically similar with some allelic frequency differences.
