Automakers are connecting vehicle navigation systems to Web-based mapping services, a move likely to lead to more Internet-enabled features, including real-time traffic reports.
On Sept. 5, Mercedes-Benz USA launched a service with Google Inc. and Yahoo! Inc. that allows vehicle owners to e-mail driving directions from the Web directly to vehicles. The Mercedes-Benz Search & Send service integrates the Google and Yahoo! map data, along with details on points of interest, into navigation systems.
