So, the 2008 Mercedes ML550 and GL550 SUVs, with larger, 5.5-liter engines transplanted from the S-Class, are luxurious even beyond their leather-and-wood-trimmed interiors. We drove pre-production versions-with 382 hp at 6000 rpm and 391 lb-ft of torque available from 2800 to 4800 rpm-and they offer an impressive combination of power, smoothness, surefooted handling and luxury.
