A SCIENTIST with the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) has discovered that aluminum chloride helps minimize the disagreeable odors that tend to concentrate in dairy and swine facilities, as well as ammonia emissions that are harmful not only to livestock and poultry but workers who care for the animals, according to an ARS report.

Soil scientists Philip A. Moore at the ARS poultry research station in Fayetteville, Ark., has spent the last 14 years working on approaches to reducing the environmental problems associated with animal waste, including poultry litter.
