Sep. 20--More birds visit Florida in winter than live here in summer.
The kinds of places they like to visit are the kinds of places the Shingle Creek Recreation Preserve in Osceola County aims to protect, Audubon Society of Florida officials say.
"It's kind of interesting because it's right in the middle of that urban area," said Paul Gray of the Audubon Society of Florida.
He has been involved in meetings about the Shingle Creek conservation efforts, which are now turning toward extending the preserve's reach into Polk, Highlands and Okeechobee counties.
