Sep. 20--Drought and poor weather during the bloom have been pegged as the culprits for the smaller white grapes that the vast majority of Santa Barbara County vineyards have so far harvested.
However, this won't mean tough times for the growers. On the contrary, because the grapes are smaller, they will have more concentrated sugar and therefore a better taste for the 2007 vintages such as the Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay and the Sauvignon Blanc.
Some vineyards will begin to pick their Cabernet grapes as early as next week, and the majority will pick their red grapes in early October.
