SAN DIEGO, May 17 /PRNewswire/ -- The San Diego Regional Cancer Center (SDRCC), an affiliate of Sharp HealthCare, has received a $5 million gift that will enable the center to significantly increase its scientific staff and expand its research in biological treatments for cancer, including several promising areas of gene therapy.
The gift is from Sidney Kimmel, 66, a native of Philadelphia and founder and chairman of Jones Apparel Group, which is listed on the New York Stock Exchange. It is the largest gift received by the five-year- old cancer research center, and equal to the largest gift ever received by Sharp.
