Jury selection began Wednesday in the trial of Oscar Wyatt, the veteran Texas oilman accused of paying Saddam Hussein's government illegal surcharges under the UN-supervised Oil-for-Food program.
Opening arguments are expected Thursday in Manhattan federal court. Prosecutors allege Wyatt and others paid Hussein's government hundreds of millions of dollars in illegal surcharges between December 2000 and March 2003 for oil that was lifted under the Oil-for-Food program.
David Chalmers, owner of Bayoil Inc. in Houston and also named in the indictment against Wyatt, pleaded guilty Aug. 17 to charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Another co-defendant, ...
