Ritchie Bros. auctioning land near proposed Union Pacific site.

Sep. 21--Even before plans have been finalized for a controversial Union Pacific rail yard near Fort Lupton, businesses are already hoping to profit from it.

Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers plans to sell 36 acres located less than a mile from the site proposed for a Union Pacific rail yard, which is currently studying the feasibility of moving from Denver to a site between Fort Lupton and Brighton. Union Pacific has signed a $40 million contract for options to purchase the land and studies on the land and proposal should be completed by November. There has been a mounting opposition against the proposal from residents who live near the site.
