Nuala Kennedy is a pan-Celtic delight-who heads a dynamic band, The New Red Shoes, which is also the name of their debut album together. Kennedy opens with "The Pink Flamingo," an apt name for the looping, watery cascades which pour from her flute and that of band member Claire Mann. Kennedy follows with "Cait I nGarrain a Bhile," in which her voice bounces to the drone of Julian Sutton's melodeon. It has the feel of bagpipes set to song, perhaps a nod to Scotland where the Irish-born Kennedy now makes her home.
