EUROPEAN Union consumers are willing to change their buying habits in order to purchase food produced in an animal welfare-friendly manner, a new study found.

"In the first EU survey on animal welfare to cover all 27 member states, as well as Turkey and Croatia, 62% of respondents said they would change their shopping habits in order to access more animal welfare-friendly goods," the European Commission said last month when it released the results of the Eurobarometer survey.

The survey also found that consumers are having trouble identifying which products meet these welfare standards.
