OUTBREAKS of avian influenza, or bird flu, as it is more commonly called, have become increasingly prevalent around the world, and while it is deadly for poultry in some cases, it is not a food safety risk.
The National Turkey Federation (NTF), in conjunction with the Minnesota Turkey Growers, recently hosted a day-long event in southern Minnesota to provide reporters with specifics concerning avian influenza as well as details on the safeguards that exist to protect birds and humans alike. The event included a visit to P&J Products, a turkey production operation outside of Northfield, Minn.
