Albany Bishop William Love, spiritual leader of some 20,000 upstate Episcopalians, is in New Orleans for a high-stakes meeting of the country's Episcopal bishops.
The Episcopal Church faces a Sept. 30 deadline to answer a pair of demands from Anglican leaders: Don't elect another gay bishop, and don't bless same-sex unions.
Episcopalians have failed to resolve a rift that opened after the 2003 ordination of V. Gene Robinson as the church's first openly gay bishop. The Episcopal Church, with 2.2 million members, is the U.S. wing of the 77 million-strong Anglican Communion.
