Sep. 22--HAWESVILLE -- Steam billowed around Irvin Stephens and Pam Newberry, then flowed out of the open windows as the duo cooked.

They kept track of the temperature of the amber-colored liquid as it traveled through the channels of a stainless-steel table that was about 10 feet long.

By the time it reached the end of the table, the liquid had transformed into a sweet syrup, emptying through a faucet into a new container -- and another batch of sorghum was almost ready.

"I think that is something that kind of gets in your blood," Stephens said of making sorghum.
