Sep. 23--OU'VE HEARD IT BEFORE -- If you want to cut your home energy bills, start with proper insulation.
There's a good reason energy-saving advocates tout insulation's importance. In the average American home, 50 percent to 70 percent of the energy used goes to heating and cooling, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. The better insulated your house, the less energy you'll consume, and the smaller your bills and your carbon footprint will be.
