Sep. 23--A pilot is recovering from a crash landing on Interstate 95 on Friday afternoon that destroyed the vintage twin-engine cargo plane and snarled traffic on the busy highway for hours.
Robert W. Robertson, 34, of Fort Lauderdale, had improved from critical to serious condition Saturday. He suffered head, arm and leg injuries when he crashed the Super Twin Beech 18 onto the southbound lanes of I-95 just north of Commercial Boulevard.
Robertson, still strapped in his seat, remained trapped in the mangled plane until firefighters equipped with special tools were able to remove him.
