Sep. 23--Businesses can scan checks in their offices and eliminate regular trips to the bank to make deposits, thanks to a technology called Remote Deposit Capture, or RDC.

The process digitally transmits checks over the Internet to banks.

"This is really the wave of the future," said Bob Eggstein, senior vice president and sales director for Wachovia's Mid-Atlantic region. "It's getting paper out of the system as much as possible."

The Charlotte, N.C.-based bank, which first offered RDC two years ago, is one of many banks now providing the service.
