Article: Painted boxes and miniature chests from Shenandoah County, Virginia: the Stirewalt group.

In 1973 the first exhibition of Virginia painted furniture was presented at what is now the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum in Williamsburg, Virginia. (1) Several groups of furniture included in the show have since been discussed in this publication, including dower chests and pie safes from Wythe County and painted furniture by Johannes Spitler of Shenandoah County.
