A foreign couple are angry about the bungling of the police investigation that led to the acquittal of those accused of raping the woman and assaulting her boyfriend in Durban last year.
Speaking from Brussels on Wednesday, the boyfriend said he had been informed that morning that the two accused - Mpendulo Sithole, 20, and a 16-year-old youth - had been set free last week.
Their acquittal follows months of delays by the police. These include not appointing an investigating officer, not following up on DNA analysis and not taking statements from other officers.
