Sep. 22--When Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce President and Chief Executive Joe Krier started his job 20 years ago, the city was regarded as the poorest big city in the nation.
San Antonio still has much ground to cover before becoming known for wealth, but "poor" no longer leaps to mind when it comes to the Alamo City.
Krier would be the first to say he is not responsible for San Antonio's improving image. Economic diversity and advancement doesn't happen, though, in cities lacking strong organizations.
