Appeals Court rules in favor of El Escorial condo owners.

Sep. 21--Homeowners at El Escorial Villas, a complex of 261 upscale condos close to Santa Barbara's East Beach, recently won a $3.7 million trial court judgment over construction defects at the property.

The California Court of Appeals affirmed that a plastering company and a framing company had performed shoddy workmanship at El Escorial when the complex was being converted from apartments and hotel units to condominiums in the late 1990s.

Cappello & Noel LLP, based in Santa Barbara, represented the homeowners' association during the initial trial that lasted 11 months in 2003, and during the appellate case against DLC Plastering and Alderman Construction.
