Environmental Affairs and Tourism Minister Marthinus van Schalkwyk has approved the expansion of Cape Town harbour. The decision comes after the previous application made by the National Ports Authority was rejected because of various flaws.
The approval comes with conditions, the most important being that it "remains within its existing footprints".
In a Record of Decision released on Friday, Van Schalkwyk gave the expansion of the harbour the go-ahead.
According to the National Ports Authority, the multi-billion rand enlargement of the container terminal is long overdue.
