Sep. 25--Jim Pahlau never bothered to earn a college degree.
But that didn't stop him from becoming one of the most learned persons in Northeast Ohio in architectural history.
Pahlau died early Saturday morning in a West Akron nursing home from complications of diabetes. He was 77.
"He was amazing in his knowledge of Akron's buildings and great homes of the past," said John Miller, archivist at the University of Akron. "He put on tremendous slideshow presentations that went on for hours . . . He loved to spread his knowledge and he usually did it for free."
