A lawyer representing Oscar Wyatt intends to argue that the Texas oilman made numerous trips to Iraq in an attempt to negotiate a peaceful settlement between the US and Iraq, rather than circumvent a trade embargo against Baghdad.

"My defense is that Oscar Wyatt was involved in carrying messages from the government of Iraq to the government of the United States and vice versa," Wyatt's lead attorney Gerald Shargel said Thursday. Wyatt "was trying to reach a peaceful settlement," the attorney added.
