Sep. 26--The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed a class-action sex discrimination lawsuit in federal court yesterday against Adelphi University, alleging the university pays its full-time female professors less than male professors of similar status doing the same work, a charge the university vigorously denied.
"I'm so excited about this," said Judith H. Cohen, a tenured education professor at Adelphi, in an interview yesterday. Her pay disparity complaint filed with the EEOC in 2005 sparked the EEOC's action.
