Sep. 28--Get ready to welcome a distinctive addition to Buffalo's waterfront that, in a sense, has been more than a century in the making.
The rowing boathouse that Frank Lloyd Wright designed in 1905 and redrew in 1930 will open Saturday on the Black Rock Channel next to the West Side Rowing Club, hundreds of miles from its original intended location on a swampy industrial waterway in Madison, Wis.
The two-story, 5,000-square-foot poured-concrete structure, which will be both a working boathouse and tourist attraction, is named for the late Charles Fontana, a legendary rowing coach, and his wife, Marie.
