"We're looking at next-gen everything," says NewTek's Jay Roth, president/3D division, in reference to LightWave's latest release, touted at August's SIGGRAPH show. So, it seems, are Autodesk, Softimage and Side Effects. The major animation/graphics packages are focusing on performance enhancements, pipeline efficiencies and productivity.
To animators, "next gen" is now synonymous with managing huge amounts of complex data, whether in games or visual effects-laden feature films.
