John F. Mulhern of Charlestown, formerly of Sherborn, legal adviser to Mayor Kevin White and an Olympic silver medalist, died Wednesday at Youville Hospital in Cambridge. He was 80.
"He was a very special individual in Kevin White's life," said George Regan, former press secretary to Mayor White, speaking on behalf of the former mayor. Mulhern was a close friend and legal adviser to White during his 16 years in office, Regan said. "If it wasn't for Jack Mulhern, Kevin White probably wouldn't have sought election for mayor of Boston," Regan said.
