When thinking about bowling alleys, there's no escaping the hobby's obvious instant illusions: kitschy shirts, fried food, outdated scoring mechanisms (yeah, we're scared of the paper-pencil method, too) cheap beer, greasy bowling balls and those ever- mysterious anti-fungus shoe aerosols. It's kind of sentimental, kind of trendy and, in case of the rented-shoe policy, kind of gross.
