Sep. 29--Registered nurses at 13 Bay Area hospitals announced plans Friday to walk off their jobs for a two-day strike in October.
The strike could involve up to 5,000 nurses at some of the largest Bay Area hospitals operated by the Sutter Health chain, including Sutter Delta in Antioch, Sutter Solano in Vallejo, San Leandro Hospital, Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley and Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in Berkeley and Oakland.
The strike is scheduled for Oct. 10 and 11.
At issue are nurse-to-patient ratios, health care coverage and retirement security, nurses and their union leaders said.
