Sep. 29--Dear Action Line: My father used to have one set of regular tires for our car and another set of snow tires for winter. On certain dates he would haul them to a tire shop to switch them. Are snow tires advisable? There were specific dates he would have to put them on by and switch them back by to avoid a fine. -- L.H., Tulsa.
Before streets were routinely plowed and salted during winter weather, it was common thing for people to own two sets of tires -- studded snow tires and regulars. When winter came, we put on the snow tires, watching out for "idiots with regulars." Of course, "the lazy folks" decided it was easier ...
